Cloudy water is a result of air bubbles in the water lines. There are a few causes for cloudy water. A likely possibility for cloudy water comes from an interruption of water pressure due to an issue in the sysyem. Water main breaks or figious flushing by the water utility. Other possibility's may be a Fire near by where the Fire department is using a great amount of water. Unauthorized water usage at a fire hydrant. Another possibility may be something called Thermal expansion. This is when your hot water heater is constantly creating hot water. Any of these issues can also create a spitting effect from appliances in your home. As always notify your water utility as soon as you notice the issue.
Fill up a clear glass with water set it on the counter and you will see the water start to clear from the bottom up. Weather or not you drink it is up to you. If it is a concern just boil some water let it cool before you refridirate it or drink it.
